The senior Year Check list

We know your senior year can get hectic, and there are a lot of important deadlines that can sneak up on you before you know it. We've gotten together with the bookstore, career services, advising, and the registrar to compile a check list of the activities most important (and often required) during your senior year.

AUGUST

check boxsnowflake Be on the lookout for your graduation application. It will be e-mailed on or around September 11th. Print it out and return it to the Registrar's Office as soon as possible, but definitely before September 25th.

check box Visit the Career Development Center.


You can meet with a career counselor who can help you with resumes, networking, and interview skills.

Register with Career Gear, where you can search for job and internship opportunities and upcoming on-campus interviews. You can upload and submit resumes, cover letters, references and work samples for employers to view.

You can also join the Career Information Network, a professional network that allows you to contact business professionals in specific fields in order to learn more about entering the work force. The goal of the Career Information Network is an exchange of information rather than a job offer.

SEPTEMBER

check boxsnowflakeTurn in your application for graduation to the Registrar (located in the JET Building) by September 25th, and include the $15.00 diploma fee. Turn this in on time - if you don't meet the deadline, you won't graduate.

check boxsnowflakeStudent teachers - submit the Licensure Application Form with your graduation application. It's required for all North Carolina Teacher License candidates.

check boxsun - May graduates Meet with your advisor to make sure everything is in order for your graduation audit. Your advisor will help you choose which check sheet to use for the audit, which must be done one semester before your last semester of study.

check boxsun - May graduatesSchedule a graduation audit. You can choose to be checked against any checksheet/catalog in effect during your time as a student at Appalachian, but once you choose your checksheet, you'll have to meet all stated requirements on it.

Note: If you'll be studying abroad or doing an internship your last semester at App, some colleges require you to have an audit done the semester before you leave. Check with your advisor or dean's office to see if this applies to you.

check boxAttend Graduation Expo in the University Bookstore, where you can purchase graduation regalia, invitations, and learn more about services for alumni and seniors. Grad Expo runs September 15-17, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

OCTOBER

check boxOrder your class ring by October 2nd in order to receive it at the Chancellor's Ring Ceremony. Rings from Josten's can be purchased through the University Bookstore.

check boxsnowflake Order your graduation announcements. The turn around time to receive announcements is usually three weeks, and your guests should receive them 2-4 weeks in advance, so have announcements ordered by October 23rd.

NOVEMBER

check boxAttend the Chancellor's Ring Ceremony on November 17th at the Broyhill Inn. This is a unique opportunity to receive your class ring from Chancellor Peacock. Feel free to invite your family!

check boxRegister with the Goldbook, Appalachian's free online community for alumni. It's the best way to stay connected once you leave Boone.

You can post resumes and photos, let us know when you get married and have kids, and sign up for e-mails letting you know about campus happenings. You can also create a permanent alumni.appstate.edu forwarding e-mail address.

Note: when you register, submit only your name in the search field. Leave the "class year" field empty.

check boxsnowflakePay any outstanding student fees from overdue library books, parking tickets, room check-out fines, and tuition balances to Student Accounts. Your balance must be paid to $0.00 in order to receive your diploma.

DECEMBER

JANUARY

check boxsun - May graduatesBe on the lookout for your graduation application. It will be e-mailed approximately two weeks after registration. Print it out and return it to the Registrar's Office as soon as possible, but definitely before February 12th.

check boxsnowflakeDecember 2010 grads- plan a meeting with your advisor and schedule a graduation audit. Pick which checksheet you'd like to use for the audit process (see more information under September).

FEBRUARY

check boxsun - May graduatesIf you didn't attend in September, stop by the Graduation Expo in the University Bookstore, where you can purchase graduation regalia and learn more about services for alumni and seniors. Grad Expo runs February 9-11, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
